Communication

Parent to Teacher
Parents are encouraged to share information with teachers that relates to their child; from Dad being out of town for the week, to the child waking up at 5:00 am. Anything that happens to the child at home may impact their enjoyment, behaviour and success at school. This information is vital in helping the teacher better understand each child and helps them to ensure that all the students in the classroom have a day that is as smooth and joyful as possible. The teachers also encourage regular communication regarding any late arrivals, absences from class, illness in the household, etc. However, if you wish to discuss any concerns about your child at length, please make an appointment with the teacher outside of regular school hours.

Teacher to Parent
The teachers are likewise committed to informing parents about their child’s performance at school via informal conversations over the phone, by email or in person. Should any incidents occur in class, the teacher will contact the parents directly.
The school also has formal parent/teacher conferences each year with written reports given to all preschool children. During the second term, children will lead a Student Led conference alongside the teacher.

Parent Involvement
Children’s House Montessori Preschool Society is a non-profit society and is governed by a parent-run, volunteer Board of Directors. Our Society prides itself on its strong sense of community. Parents are encouraged to communicate with their child’s teacher, come in for observations and conferences, and visit the school with their child, who can ‘show them the ropes’. Parents also help with the many extra jobs that need to be done in order to maintain a well-run and efficient school. Some of these jobs include: playground maintenance, recycling, laundry, etc.

Fundraising is an important part of the viability of the Society. Parent fundraising has ensured that our classrooms are supplied with the highest quality educational materials and that our tuition rates remain competitive. As a non-profit Society, all fundraising dollars are invested in our students and the quality of our programming.
