Practical Life exercises relate directly to daily living tasks. These activities include many of the tasks children see as part of the daily routine in their home, such as learning to put on their jackets, sorting, buttoning, pouring and so on. Through these tasks, children develops fine motor skills essential for their future. Lessons on courtesy and respect permit the child to deal with everyday situations. They learn to work at a task from beginning to end, and develop concentration.
In Montessori Method of education, reading is taught with the ‘phonetic’ method. This method of learning is by sounds of the letters helping reading and word building. We use the combination of the alphabet phonics lessons and the Montessori language approach.
The children learn and understand number concepts by manipulating materials. Once the children are comfortable with numbers and quantities of 1 through 10 they move on to other concepts. This work gives children a solid understanding of basic mathematical principles, prepares them for abstract reasoning, and helps to develop problem-solving capabilities.
Our Social Sciences curriculum explores the areas of science, social studies, geography, art and history. Children are exposed to a rich, stimulating variety of work through hands-on learning. Working with the cultural materials help children become aware that they are part of a greater family of humanity.
Sensorial material help in refining the child’s senses. Children build cognitive skills, and learn to order and classify materials by touching, seeing, smelling, tasting, listening, and exploring the physical properties of their environment. Activities for all the senses begin with simple tasks and move towards materials that require more skill.
Exploring is essential for children to understand their surroundings. Children enjoy a variety of activities. In addition to our Montessori program, we offer music and yoga.
CHM enjoys celebrating birthdays, holidays and special events. We also have parties for children at Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Graduation and more! We teach children about other days like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving and so on.
